The urology elective at Atlanta Medical Center will include morning rounds with the surgical residents to expose them to the general surgical aspects that could also be applied to the more specific field of urology. After rounds, the student will be expected to make rounds on these patients to monitor their postoperative course. The afternoons will be spent either with residents in their conferences or rotating through the office practice of urology in attendance with a urological surgeon. Thereby, experience can be obtained in the office practice of this specialty.
The student also will be exposed to newer techniques, specifically those associated with laparoscopic procedures. There also may be an opportunity to experience animal procedures in the newly developed Atlanta Endosurgery Center.
Lectures will be given to the students covering the general aspects of urology. Specific areas of expertise of the urologists at Atlanta Medical Center include those specifically dealing with kidney stone therapy and more newly developed skills of laparoscopic approaches to urological maladies.
