Atlanta Medical Center to Host Fashion Show Featuring Weight-Loss Patients
Fashion show marks hospital’s milestone of 5,000 bariatric surgeries

Atlanta Medical Center today announced that the hospital has surpassed 5,000 bariatric, or weight-loss, surgeries since the program first started in 1999. In celebration of this milestone, the hospital is hosting a fashion show on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. in the AMC Wellness Center at the Highland Athletic Club, featuring successful weight-loss patients as the fashion models. The event is open to the public, but space is limited; individuals can register to attend by calling 404-265-DOCS.

“Performing such a large number of successful surgeries is certainly an accomplishment that makes the physicians and staff of Atlanta Medical Center proud,” said Dr. Titus Duncan, Medical Director of the Bariatric Center of Excellence at Atlanta Medical Center. “However, it takes hard work from each patient for them to accomplish their weight loss goals. This fashion show is to honor our patients – their success, their perseverance, and their new lives.”

As a recognized Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery, Atlanta Medical Center offers patients a variety of treatment options including LAP-BAND^® and gastric bypass surgeries, the two most commonly used surgical treatments for weight loss. The AMC program also includes development of a personalized exercise program and sponsors support groups where patients interact with each other. AMC helps patients put the exercise plan in place prior to surgery and assists in resuming the program as quickly as possible after the surgery takes place.

“I’d be lying if I said the process was easy,” said Andy Weekes, a former patient who will be in attendance Saturday. “But I made it through with encouragement and support of all the doctors and staff. They are with me every step of the way as I continue my lifestyle transformation.”
