Effects of Stroke

The effects of a stroke depend on several factors including the location of the stroke and how much brain tissue is affected.  For example, if the stroke occurs in the brain’s right side, the left side of the body (and the right side of the face) will be affected and the following symptoms could result[1]:

  • Paralysis on the left side of the body
  • Vision problems
  • Quick, implusive behavioral style
  • Memory loss

The right side of the face (and the left side of the body) is affected when the stroke occurs on the left side of the brain. When this occurs, the patient may experience the following:

  • Paralysis on the right side of the body
  • Speech and language problems
  • Slow, cautious behavioral style
  • Memory loss
