Atlanta Medical Center’s Bariatric Program achieves designation of excellence

Atlanta Medical Center’s long-standing weight-loss program has been reaccredited as a Bariatric Center of Excellence® by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

“Our program continues to build on its history of high-quality service,” said Bariatric Program Coordinator Faye Wimbish of the reaccreditation. “More than 5,000 bariatric procedures have been performed at Atlanta Medical Center since we began our program in 1999.”

The ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (BSCOE) designation helps identify facilities where patients can expect to receive safer and more effective surgical treatment. These centers must pass a thorough site inspection that includes a full review of the facilities; interviews with surgeons, staff and administrators; and a detailed review of medical charts. BSCOE hospitals and surgeons must meet stringent requirements that assess each facet of care specific to bariatric surgery patients.

Titus D. Duncan, M.D., is Medical Director of Atlanta Medical Center’s Bariatric Surgery Program.
