Obstetrics and Gynecology
The student is assigned responsibility for the evaluation and care of Obstetrics and Gynecology patients under the supervision of the resident physicians and attending physician. This elective provides 2 weeks of General Obstetrics and 2 weeks of General Gynecology. The Gynecology service includes an active operative room and outpatient surgery center representing the full range of gynecologic surgery. Students on the Gynecology Service will assist in the work-up of surgery and post-op care of patients with attendings and residents. Additionally, Emergency Room visits are covered by the Gynecology service.
Ambulatory Obstetrics and Gynecology
A comprehensive experience in women’s health care awaits the student at Atlanta Medical Center. The student will attend clinics and participate in office procedures with the Ambulatory resident.
Gynecology Oncology
The student will be supervised by the Director of Gynecologic Oncology and expected to attend all clinical conferences as well as observe and participate in office procedures such as video colposcopy and laser surgery as requested by the Director. The goals of the rotation: a) Understanding the pathology, clinical presentation, natural history, evaluation and treatment of gynecologic malignancies; b) Understanding of major procedures used to screen for female pelvic malignancies; c) Review of the basic principles of care for critically ill patients with multiple medical problems as well as neoplastic diseases; and d) Understanding the role of gynecologic oncologist in private as well as academic settings.
