7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Pre-op conference, review cases for the week. Residents are expected to present their cases for the week to the entire group. The resident is expected to prepare for questions about the cases.

Tuesday

6:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Weekly conference with lectures from attendings, residents and other orthopaedic surgeons

Wednesday

6:30 – 7:00 a.m. – X-ray rounds
7:00 – 8:00 a.m.

1st Wednesday of each month – Chief’s conference, review future clinic cases with attendings
2nd Wednesday of each month – Orthopaedic Surgery Department Meeting
3rd Wednesday of each month – M & M
4th/5th Wednesday of each month – Review cases, lectures, pathology

Thursday

Oncology
5:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Tumor Board – Review future and past cases with multiple disciplines including orthopedics, pathology, hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, radiology and general surgery

General Surgery
7:00 – 8:00 a.m.- Orthopaedic Oncology Journal Club

Scottish Rite Hospital
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Rotating Thursday Conferences:

Radiology – Pediatric radiologist discusses cases
Hand Conference – Pediatric hand lecture by Dr. Peljovich
Pathology Conference – Pathologist and Dr. Fabregas show cases including slides and radiographs and residents are encouraged to make diagnosis
Indications Conference – Combined conference with Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics. Attendings and residents discusses difficult pre-operative cases

Friday

Atlanta Medical Center
6:15 – 6:30 a.m. – Morning conference on previous night’s reading
6:30 – 7:00 a.m. – X-ray rounds
7:00 – 7:20 a.m. – Floor Rounds
1:00 – 5:00 p.m. – Weekly conference for entire residency

Scottish Rite Hospital
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Post-operative conference, review all the previous weeks’ cases. Residents are expected to prepare for and present these cases.

Other

Hand
Journal Club - 2 times per year, led by Dr. Gary Lourie and attended by all hand attendings.
Pediatric Hand Conference – Dr. Peljovich lectures on pediatric orthopaedics once a month at Scottish Rite Hospital.

Foot and Ankle
Clinical Topics – Discussed at length before clinic/surgery and during clinic/surgery, based on readings from OKU Foot and Ankle and multiple research articles given to the residents by the attendings.
Monthly Journal Club.

Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine Journal Club – Once a month with Dr. Kelly/Dr. Kane/Dr. Gillogly
Clinical Topics – discussed at length before clinic/surgery and during clinic/surgery, based on readings from sports medicine texts and multiple research articles.

Adult Reconstruction
Monthly Journal Club.

Research
The residents have regular interactions with Dr. Ganey regarding research opportunities. In particular technologies that afford opportunities to engage and review innovations in regenerative medicine are a key focus. Genetic diagnostics, cell-based therapeutics, and novel biomaterials have been identified as key areas of translational medicine initiatives.
