MedShare International, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization, recently celebrated World Health Day at its Decatur, Ga., distribution center by loading and sending two 40-foot containers with medical supplies and equipment to hospitals in economically developing countries. World Health Day is an annual event started by the World Health Organization to draw attention to global health issues.
"We can't think of a better time than World Health Day to highlight the need throughout the world for basic medical supplies and equipment," said A.B. Short, MedShare International's CEO and founder. "We are very appreciative of all the healthcare providers and medical suppliers and manufacturers who have partnered with us to help hospitals throughout the world provide better care for their patients."
One of the containers will be sent to a recipient hospital in Ecuador. The Second Lady of Ecuador was on hand to participate in the event.
Representatives from several area hospitals also attended the celebration. MedShare honored the CEOs and staffs at Atlanta Medical Center and North Fulton Regional Hospital with Hospital Hero Awards.
