AMC has earned designation as a UnitedHealth Premium Specialty Center for Cardiovascular Surgery and Interventional Cardiology

Innovation in technology and treatment is a hallmark of Atlanta Medical Center, and the cardiology program is no exception. Over the course of its history, Atlanta Medical Center has made the treatment, education and research of cardiovascular disease a priority. The hospital provides a full-service, vertically integrated cardiac program that stresses prevention and disease management in addition to providing cardiac catheterization and open heart surgery services.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs

Atlanta Medical Center is home to one of the first cardiac rehabilitation programs in the Southeast. Established in 1970, the program emphasizes the treatment of the underlying diseases of the heart and offers:

  • Special programs to address risk factors such as obesity, smoking and high cholesterol
  • Exercise and nutritional programs
  • Health screenings
  • Counseling
  • Rehabilitation services for additional heart conditions

Innovative Procedures and Surgical Techniques

Physicians and cardiac specialists continually enhance their education to perform some of the latest procedures and surgical techniques. Innovative procedures and surgical techniques available at Atlanta Medical Center include:

  • diagnostic and interventional coronary artery catheterizations
  • bloodless cardiovascular surgery *
  • surgical ablation for cardiac arrhythmias
  • surgical ventricular restoration
  • minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting
  • endovascular thoracic aortic repair
  • surgical thoracic aortic replacement

* Bloodless means medical or surgical treatments without the use of banked (stored) allogenic blood or primary blood components. Blood loss often occurs during surgery. A bloodless program endeavors to minimize blood loss by using special blood conservation methods.
